Velvet has been a favorite of home decorators and DIY’s since it introduction. Available in a multitude of colors and sizes, velvet is great as a cover material. A very specific feel, and cut from two varying heights of pile, it creates a very soft and comfortable fabric. The uses of this miracle fabric are almost endless, perfect for covering chair cushions, making pillows and art & crafts projects.
“Recently we designed a chair loosely based on Gerrit Rietveld’s ‘Military Chair.’ Covering it entirely in black velvet softened the rigid geometry and eased it out of the realm of furniture and into sculpture. I especially love black velvet from Gretchen Bellinger’s Applause Collection, and Sabina Fay Braxton’s Atelier in France where she hand prints velvet’s with patterns.”
